Launching a Leadership Revolution

As a staff at our Church we just began reading the book "Launching a Leadership Revolution" by Chris Brady and Orrin Woodward. At first I was skeptical, I usually don't enjoy reading a book that's been assigned in the first place and secondly, leadership books are usually very similar. Look the same, feel the same, similar content re-packaged, written similarly...if you were to throw them into a blender and drink them - they'd likely taste the same.

And of course we tend to read a lot of books on leadership here, we've read 5 Dysfunctions of Team, Made To Stick, Preaching for Change, Winning with People to mention a few. They're helpful...but all too similar.

This book has gotten my attention, in the early part of it there is the amazing diagram on "Hunger," in regard to leading. It talks of two ditches. The ditch of complacency, and the ditch of discouragement. As I have heard this ditch analogy before - it caught and grabbed my attention as it added shoulders and more automotive analogy (and being a car freak - I loved it). On the ditch of complacency it added the shoulder of comfort and on the ditch of discouragement it added the shoulder of frustration. As we travel along the road of 'leading' we are either heading towards 'dreams' or towards 'mediocrity' with the two shoulders and ditches aligning our paths on either side.

This is what the image looks like:

I recommend this book for anyone who wants to improve themselves and their leadership capacities.
